據《CNBC》向知情人士確認消息，美國準總統川普 (Donald Trump) 將提名奧克拉荷馬州總檢察長 Scott Pruitt 擔任國家環境保護局 (EPA) 局長。
Scott Pruitt 過去曾猛烈抨擊 EPA ，且與石油及天然氣產業的關係一直以來都很緊密，與川普暗示有意鬆綁能源法規的想法一致。
川普今年初於電視專訪時曾說，「他們所做的環境保護 (相關法規) 是很丟人的，他們每周都端出新的法規。」
Scott Pruitt 成為奧克拉荷馬州高階檢察官後，於 2011 年擴大石油儲備，並曾多次挑戰 EPA ，包括要求取消《潔淨電力法案》 (Clean Power Plan) 的待定訴訟。此法案為歐巴馬 (Barack Obama) 政府氣候變遷政策的核心，要求美國各州抑制碳排放。
9 月接受《路透社》專訪時， Scott Pruitt 曾說他認為《潔淨電力法案》為聯邦政府「高壓並具指揮性的」能源政策，並表示他的州應該擁有「能為自身市場做出決定的主權」。
追溯至 1970 年以來 19 位前任 EPA 長官， Scott Pruitt 將很容易成為其中最反環境的領導者。川普欲指派 Scott Pruitt 的消息，因此很快招致左派人士批評。
紐約總檢察長 Eric Schneiderman 周三 (7 日) 發布聲明，表示已準備好「使盡全力」迫使 EPA 堅持國際環境法規，他認為 Scott Pruitt 領導環境保護局「既危險又不夠格」。
《綠色和平》發言人則表示，「藉由指派他擔任環境保護局局長，川普已使美國處於危險之中... 他將導致美國在 21 世紀潔淨能源競賽上遠遠落後其他國家。」
